How we helped National Car Parks (NCP)

SDCL, FES and UK Green Investment Bank have retrofitted NCP car parks with a brand new lighting solution, radically improving the energy infrastructure of the UK’s largest private car park operator.

The deal, which was the first transport infrastructure project to qualify for the UK Government guarantee scheme, means that 149 locations nationwide will benefit from new energy efficient lighting systems.

Switching to LEDs delivers a high quality lighting solution while at the same time significantly reducing energy demand, maintenance costs and greenhouse gas emissions. The project is expected to save over 11,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per annum and generate energy savings of over 65% in the car parks that are being retrofitted.

The investment enabled the project to be delivered for NCP at no up-front cost, financed by energy cost savings over time.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander:

“The project shows that being energy efficient is common sense, saving money and reducing emissions at the same time. I hope it encourages other infrastructure projects to come forward and to see how a guarantee might work for them.”
